The Embryo Comparison illustrations were created in the Winter of 2011 for the K12 Inc team. The subject matter experts were looking for an illustration series to help middle school students enrolled in the Biology program see the similarities and differences of animals at the embryonic stage.
The initial brainstorming sketches were made using traditional mediums like pencil and paper. The aesthetic seemed to take on a classic style that the content specialists liked and we purposefully kept the sketch aesthetic throughout the completion of the project.
The contrast levels of the illustrations were boosted to ensure students could easily identify the sketches in a light-polluted classroom.
