One of our clients, Junior Achievement USA, had asked us to lead a series of interactives that would help prepare students to read through job postings and create a faux resume that would support all the job requirements. It’s amazing just how often young adults will look through the classified sections of a newspaper or websites and not really know what skills are required to perform the job advertised.
The activity has been optimized for a blended classroom where an instructor will present the activity on a large projector and students will raise their hands to participate. The initial brainstorming session for this asset was fascinating, there were so many directions we could take the interactive activity. This din was quickly dispersed as our SME helped distill the interactive to the basics; it was all about limiting class time and potential confusion.
Students need to know how to read a job posting carefully and identify and collate the following skills:
- Work and volunteer experience
- Extracurricular Activities and Achievements
- Personal Qualities
Initial testing has gone well, and we have the highest hopes that this activity will help young adults land their first job interview.
